Cohen was reared in the Long Island, New York, the community of Lawrence. His father, a Holocaust survivor, was a physician, and his mother worked as a nurse.
Cohen is an Ashkenazi Jew. His educational background includes Woodmere Academy, American University, where he earned a BA, and Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he earned a JD. Cohen served as a vice president of the Trump Organization, served as Trump’s personal attorney, and was frequently referred to in the media as his “fixer.”
He was a board member of the children’s health charity, the Eric Trump Foundation, and worked as co-president of Trump Entertainment. Cohen held the position of deputy finance chairperson for the Republican National Committee from 2017 to 2018.
Cohen began practising personal injury law in New York in 1992, working for Melvyn Estrin in Manhattan. As of 2003, he was an attorney in private practice and CEO of MLA Cruises, Inc., and of the Atlantic Casino.
