Caleb White, a superb basketball player rated third in Alabama and 43rd in the US, allegedly died at the age of 17 after falling on a basketball court on Thursday, August 10.

According to various accounts quoting the teen’s grandfather George Varnadoe, Pinson Valley High School senior Caleb White was exercising with his teammates when he fell around 1:12 p.m. on Thursday.

White’s grandpa stated on Facebook that life-saving procedures were taken at the court until paramedics came and brought him to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Caleb White, a high school basketball player, fell on the floor during a workout Thursday and was declared dead at an Alabama hospital, according to his family, who released a statement Friday.

White, a senior point guard at Pinson Valley High School, slumped on the gym floor while playing a casual game with his friends.

Caleb’s mother, Charlette White, said physicians told her her son died of heart arrest.

“It was devastating because they were working on him, giving him chest compressions,” Charlette said. “Then they called it and that was it. They said it was cardiac arrest.”

There were no previous signs that Caleb had a heart condition or was feeling ill, his mother confirmed.

Caleb’s grandfather, George Varnadoe Jr., shared the news on Facebook, stating first responders did their utmost to save his grandson.

Caleb was a standout high school basketball player who aspired to play in the NBA, according to his grandfather.

“Our entire family was looking forward to his upcoming senior season and then playing for a D-1 school and possibly the NBA,” Varnadoe Jr. wrote. “But……it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Caleb was declared dead at 2:23 p.m., while his mother stood nearby. Today is the day for the autopsy.
