Florida State University’s guitar professor Bruce Holzman there, recently passed away. Since 1972, he has served as the Guitar Programme Director.
Due to the wounds he received from a terrible car accident, Bruce died on May 6, 2023.
Everyone will be paying tribute to Bruce and remembering his incredible personality as details about the funeral ceremonies will likely be released.
Bruce, who was up in New York, earned degrees from New York University and the High School of the Performing Arts.
Bruce received instruction from a variety of guitar tutors, including Albert Valdes Blaine, Rodrigo Riera, and Gustavo Lopez.
Bruce began teaching at Florida State University in August 1972, and his students went on to triumph in international competitions including the Guitar Foundation of America and Toronto International Guitar Festival.
Several of his past students would land major teaching positions at prestigious universities like the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Louisville, Stetson University, and numerous other illustrious organisations.
In 2018, Bruce was admitted into the GFA Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Fifth New York Guitar Seminar hosted in his honor.
With hundreds of advanced students from many generations who have become well-known guitarists, he was undoubtedly one of the most productive guitar teachers ever.
As many mourn the passing of their beloved teacher today, we implore you to recall the good moments and be in awe of his enormous influence on so many people despite being a man of few words.

I had an incredible opportunity to work with him in 2017 when I won the FSU competition in Tallahassee.
I played the Bach Prelude in E major for him. He said it was very nice, and gave me some advice, and among other things, that I should play it faster for the competition. I had played it a little slow for him. I followed his advice. He also tried to listen to my concert the following year and mentioned how he enjoyed it, which I appreciated tremendously. He has a wonderful legacy in the guitar world which will live on. It is a beautiful thing to see so many sharing precious memories.”
